Checked

Location on ribbon: Tab DVD Addin → Group Text and Number → Menu Bullets

Command ID: btnVCheckbox

What it does

Prepends a ticked checkbox plus a space to every line inside the selected cells. Because the command strips any existing symbol before inserting, its main use is changing state: select the rows that currently show , click once, and they become with no stacked symbols.

That is the fastest way to keep a construction checklist current — the register of acceptance documents already submitted, the items inspected and passed, the tasks completed in the site diary.

How to use

  1. Select the cells (or rows) for the items that are now complete.
  2. Go to the DVD Addin tab → Text and Number group → open the Bullets menu → choose Checked.
  3. The add-in strips the previous symbol, then handles each cell:
    • Text cell — each line is trimmed, then is added at the start.
    • Empty cell — just is written.
    • Formula cell — wrapped as =""&"☑ "&(original formula), so the tick shows while the formula stays live.
  4. The status bar reports Processed N cells (checkbox ☑).

You can Ctrl-select scattered cells and tick them all in a single click.

Example

The document register for foundation completion, updated after the first submission:

BeforeAfter (three submitted rows selected)
☐ Foundation rebar acceptance record☑ Foundation rebar acceptance record
☐ 28-day cube compression test results☑ 28-day cube compression test results
☐ Site diary for the foundation works☑ Site diary for the foundation works
☐ As-built drawings for the foundations☐ As-built drawings for the foundations

Notes

  • Select only the completed rows — the command applies to every cell in the selection, unfinished ones included.
  • The tick is a character in the cell text, not a clickable control, and it is not linked to any TRUE/FALSE cell.
  • Each line is trimmed of surrounding whitespace before the symbol is added.
  • Cells holding numbers, dates, or TRUE/FALSE are skipped entirely, and Ctrl+Z will not undo the change.
  • Hidden rows and columns are skipped, and each merged area is processed once, at its top-left cell.
  • Checkbox — create the empty boxes a checklist starts from.
  • Rejected — the third state, for items that failed or were rejected.
  • (None) — strip every symbol and return the checklist to plain text.
  • Filled star — flag items needing attention rather than items already done.
