Pictures
Location on ribbon: Tab DVD Addin → Group Graphics
Command ID: btnInsertPictures
What it does
This command bulk-inserts images into the worksheet, one picture per cell, fitted to the cell (merged cells included) with a padding you choose. You pick many image files at once instead of running Insert → Picture and dragging each one into place.
It is the backbone command for site photo records: daily diaries, work inspection sheets, weekly progress reports — any table where each row is a work item with an evidence photo.
How to use
- Prepare the table with cells (or merged cells) large enough to hold the pictures.
- Go to tab DVD Addin → group Graphics → Pictures.
- The Select image files dialog opens — select several files with Ctrl or Shift (PNG, JPG, JPEG, BMP, GIF, WEBP are supported) and press Open.
- A range picker appears — "Select target range". Drag over the destination cells and press OK.
- An input box asks for the padding between image and cell border (2-5 recommended), pre-filled with
2. Enter a value and press OK. - Pictures are placed in order: if the range is taller than wide it fills down the column, otherwise across the row. A toast reports how many of the selected images were inserted.
Example
A rebar inspection record for the level-3 slab has six merged photo cells in column D (D5:D10), each four rows tall.
You select six site photos named 01.jpg … 06.jpg, pick the range D5:D10, and enter a padding of 3. The result: six photos sitting neatly inside the six merged cells with a 3-point margin, none of them spilling outside the record's border.
Notes
- Insert order follows the file order returned by the file dialog, normally alphabetical — number your photos (
01,02…) so they land on the right rows. - The command walks in one direction from the first cell of the range; if you pick more images than cells, the extras continue past the range, below (or to the right of) the selection.
- Merged cells are detected automatically and the picture is fitted to the whole merged area, not just the top-left cell.
- How the picture fills the cell (stretch to fill, fit width, keep original size…) follows the PictureFit setting under Preferences ▸ Graphics.
- Ctrl+Z will not undo this — remove unwanted pictures by selecting and deleting them. Hold ESC to stop early; images already inserted are kept.
- Images are embedded into the workbook, so the Excel file grows quickly if the source photos are high-resolution.
